IRFU CLUB EXCELLENCE AWARD20th October 2015
County Antrim Rugby Club, Ballyclare RFC, has been awarded £5000 in this year’s Ulster Bank RugbyForce programme.
Now in its fifth year Ulster Bank RugbyForce provides clubs with the opportunity to win support packages to renovate clubs and upgrade facilities. It also encourages rugby supporters, their friends and families to give something back to their local community and rugby club by volunteering to undertake renovations to clubhouses and grounds.
Director of rugby at Ballyclare RFC, Mark Holland is pleased to have won the support package and is looking forward to putting it to good use.
“Last season we introduced a new Ladies section and we continue to expand our junior teams. As a result it’s essential for us as a club to upgrade our changing facilities, create a new medical room and refurbish our gym area. Winning this Ulster Bank Rugby Force package will help us put these plans into place much quicker than we anticipated,” he said.
The club held an Ulster Bank RugbyForce Day last Sunday, (September 13) and started work on some of the projects that the funding will be spent on.
“We brought together around 100 players, club members, supporters and their families for a special ‘Pride in our Club’ event. We completed a general tidy up both inside and outside our clubhouse as well as laying a new rubber surface on our changing room floors and painting walls. We also started the process of converting one of our changing rooms into a stand-a-lone permanent medical room as well as repainting and re-flooring our current gym,” Mark added.
Terry Robb, Head of Ballymena Business Centre at Ulster Bank congratulated Ballyclare on winning the award.
“RugbyForce is very much at the heart of grass roots rugby, helping local clubs throughout the island of Ireland improve their grounds and facilities and develop for the future. Myself and Robert Boyd, who is also a Ballyclare RFC player were delighted to join in with the clean-up activities on behalf of Ulster Bank,” Terry said.
