A Message from the PresidentOn behalf of Ballyclare Rugby Football Club, I would like to extend a warm welcome to all members, players, coaches and supporters to The Cloughan in this our 70th season. Our club was formed at a meeting in Ballyclare High School on 20th May 1949 and still enjoys strong links with the school today. I am honoured to be the President of our club in this special anniversary year and am looking forward to another exciting season for the club.
I would like to wish the club captain Grant Bartley, along with Coach, Mike Orchin-McKeever and his assistant Ricky Lutton every success for the incoming season as they embark on another challenging schedule of league and cup fixtures. The tireless work of the team manager Stephen Crawford and backroom team, will support their campaign every step of the way.
Our club family will grow this year with the “rebirth” of a 5th XV that will compete in the Regional League, giving more opportunities for our members and community to play rugby. Club stalwarts Alistair Lindsay and Mark McCalmont will lead this new team and I wish them every success. Garth Johnston as Director of Rugby will coordinate our rugby activities across, adult, youth, girls, mini section and Hares as Ballyclare strives to be the best that we can be.
I had the pleasure of spending a weekend with Clare Hares at the Wooden Spoon Charity, Special Needs Tag Rugby Festival at Greystones in June and am really pleased that The Cloughan will be the venue for this huge event, which attracts clubs from all over the UK and Ireland, in 2019.
A big thank-you to our loyal sponsors, we are indebted to many whose generosity supports us financially. I would ask all members to be mindful of the services provided by our diverse band of sponsors and return the support where possible.
Finally a special mention of thanks to all the volunteers of the club who give of their time and services freely, these acts of solidarity and commitment are what have made our club grow and develop over the last 70 years and I hope will continue to do so for 70 more and beyond.
I hope all have a safe and enjoyable season.
